sledding

ariel and i had so much fun at the cabin a couple weekends ago! we took so many pictures but decided not to bombard y'all all at once with them. probably the best activity of the day was sledding. the pictures here don't do justice to the sledding we did. there's no way i would have taken a camera on the long run. it was about a mile and we went sofast! there were a couple moments that had me a little scared, but overall it was a blast!

the snowcat picked us up at the end of our long run on the sleds

frozen flowers

oh hey, this winter liz and i are spending as much time out of the inversion as possible. (it helps that we live above it in a beautiful canyon) getting above the smog has its perks, not only is the air clean and fresh its also quite a bit warmer.  as much as i love bundling up there is something to be appreciated about a day just warm enough to not need a coat.  so today i bundled up with a down vest and a few layers of leggings (yes i confess i layer my leggings to stay warm) instead of a jacket and was ready for another beautiful day in the frozen tundra.

risky business

we hope y'all had a fantastic weekend! ariel and i spent the weekend at a friend's cabin in the mountains. someone had the bright idea of jumping off the balcony into a bunch of powder. genius. ariel and i are both admittedly afraid of heights and it took a little bit of a pep talk to convince us to finally jump. we did it though and it was so fun!

another bucket list item can be crossed off the list.... #bucketlist2014 facing a fear!

big warm sweater

freshly fallen snow and a comfy sweater... sounds like a recipe for the perfect afternoon.  while liz was busy with navy work, chica and i headed up the canyon and played in the snow. it was so incredible to spend an afternoon away from the city and the smog to enjoy crisp, freshly fallen snow in the mountains...not to mention fresh air. i love living in utah and being able to enjoy all 4 seasons but our winters are absolutely spectacular, just look at the scenery picture below and you will agree!  we had a great time soaking up the sun (it was a surprisingly warm day), snow and incredible view with an afternoon filled with snow-ventures. i hope the rest of you have a similar opportunity to enjoy nature and escape the noise just like we did today. and, winter isn't over yet so stay tuned for more snow filled fun to come.

cozy in camo

happy friday! ariel and i are still adjusting to our new schedules so it's been difficult to get any posts up! i had drill all weekend with the navy and she was up in park city enjoying all the fresh snow. we didn't see each other for about 3 days! but we have some fun plans this weekend so we will be blowing up your social media feeds.

do any of you remember when camouflage used to be in style? it was high school for me. i had a pair of   camo capris that i loved but they went out of style and i started to dislike the pattern. this year i saw a lot of people wearing it and it started to grow on me. it took me a while to really like it but now i love it again. so needless to say, i've been on the search for a pair of camo leggings. i finally found some here! and the best part is, i only had to pay for shipping. they are still having this promotion so go get some before it ends!

garlic lime chicken

hello my lovelies! i hope you are all having a fantastic week! mine has been super busy. i thought that not being in school and just working would give me more free time. i was very wrong. i just started a new job on monday so needless to say, i've had very little spare time. fortunately, it won't be like this all the time and in a couple weeks when i'm finished training i'll have more off time again!

as you know, ariel and i wanted to make this more of a lifestyle blog so we aren't going to be just posting about one specific topic. our goal is to post about anything and everything...which brings us to tonight's post-a recipe! i enjoy cooking, especially when i have someone to share it with! fortunately, this time, i do. i used to live alone and, not to toot my own horn [toot toot]- i made some pretty delicious meals but had no one to share them with. now i do and i'm really excited. tonight's recipe one of my favorite meals. i actually found it on pinterest a couple years ago. i can't find it anymore, but i've made it enough that i've memorized it. i've made it for family and friends and everyone has loved it! so on to the recipe...drumroll please....

garlic lime chicken with cilantro lime rice!

who doesn't love mexican food? if you don't, you're weird. i'm joking...chill. but seriously, i could eat mexican just about every single day. my favorite thing is chips and salsa...oh and chimichangas! but i exercise some self-control and don't. my hips and butt thank me for it. oh...i ramble sometimes...ok, back to the recipe. this is a great meal for those of you that want something hearty and filling but low fat and healthy. not to mention it's really easy to make!

garlic lime chicken

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons garlic powder
juice from 2 limes

combine all the spices together in a small bowl. coat the chicken breasts on both sides generously with the spice mixture.

in a cooking pan, add 1 tablespoon olive oil and heat on medium high heat. cook the chicken breasts on for about 4 minutes on each side. after each side has been seared, turn the heat down to low and cook until done (about 10 minutes).

remove from heat and serve on a bed of cilantro lime rice.

cilantro lime rice

1 cup brown rice (or white if you prefer)
1 cup water
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 cup chopped cilantro (or more to taste)
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
salt to taste

combine all of the ingredients in a rice cooker. cook until finished.

we hope you enjoy this tasty recipe as much as we did! until next time!

xoxo
